Marshall Eddie Conway - Black Panther, activist, political prisoner of 40 years- called from prison to my collective Red Emma's to speak about his book "The Greatest Threat: Black Panther Party and COINTELPRO"

Eddie spoke about the U.S. governments illegal counter intelligence program (COINTELPRO) used against the members of the Black Panther Party and other movements of the 1960's and 1970's as well as current re-manifestations of the program used to criminalize movements for social change and justice of today.

Autonomous Pueblo - San Juan Copala, Oaxaca

Otras estuvieron secuestrados, desaparecidos y heridos.

San Juan Copala is a town in the Triqui region of Oaxaca, Mexico. An indigenous group with a deep history of resistance to colonization and government and paramilitary oppression. In 2006 with the wave of the other campaign and the Oaxacan movement with the APPO and section 22 of the Teachers Union among other groups, San Juan Copala announced it's autonomy. The response from the government was to augment and support the paramilitary group Unity for the Social Well-being of the Triqui Region (UBISORT in Spanish). That group is using murders, kidnappings, threats and violence and as of some time has besieged the community of San Juan Copala.

April 27th a human rights caravan composed of members from the Popular Assembly of the Peoples of Oaxaca (APPO in Spanish), Center of Communal Support Working Together (CACTUS in Spanish), Oaxacan Voices building Autonomy and Liberty (VOCAL in Spanish), Section 22 of the Teachers Union, reporters from the Mexican Magazine - Contralinea, and internationals from Belgium, Italy, Finland and Germany - attempted to arrive to the besieged community with basic supplies and provisions, but was attacked by UBISORT

A respected and known activist from CACTUS - Bety Cariño, and a Finnish activist - Juri Jaakkola, were both assasinated. Others were kidnapped, dissapeared or injured.
