Puebla

Conservativa y caro.

In response to the action of the government , that used the Federal Police and Army to remove the workers of "Luz y Fuerza del Centro" from their work, and for liquidating the national company, the union of the workers - Mexican Electricians Union (SME in Spanish) - called for a "Mega-March" to show their power and anger. The action by the government seems to be an attack against organized labor in the country and a move to privitization.

In the afternoon of Thursday October 15th, the march began near "the Angel" to the "Zocalo", with the workers of the SME (more than 44,000), other unions, workers, students, retirees, social organizations, and citizens in general. The number of participants was more than thousands.

Las Electricistas estan enojados - The Electricians are angry

yo espero tener fotos de la manifestación por viernes The electricians of the union (some 40,000 workers)- Electricians Union of México (SME in Spanish) have been layed-off by the government of Calderón, which used the Military and Federal police to evict the workers and shut down the national company "Luz y Fuerza del Centro". The reason for the liquidation by the Government is that the operational costs exceed the costs of other state companies. But for many the movement by the government seems more like a movement to privatize and an attack on organized labor. The workers have called for a "Mega March" for this Thursday that will begin at the Angel to the Zocalo.

October 2, 1968 in the plaza in Tlotelolco, Mexico City, students, profesors, workers, and others participated in a protest that was repressed by the mexican government. The people were part of social movements calling and struggling for revolutionary change, against an oppressive and corrupt government. What resulted was a massacre of those who were protesting peacefully. The mexican army and a paramilitary force called the Batallón Olimpia shot into the crowd, murdering hundreds of people.

Each year since October 2, 1968, there is a demonstration and march in memory of those that had fallen, and of those that have fallen fighting and struggling for justice in the years since. Also, it is a demonstration of todays struggles, for the political prisoners of Atenco, Oaxaca, and the whole country, for indigenous rights, workers rights, for the rights of women, homosexuals, gender identities, and the mother earth. Struggling, perhaps, for another México and world of justice.
